At the current time, the iPhone 17 isn't even confirmed, however, following previous iPhone knowledge and rumours from the internet, we can harvest a guess as to what we could see from the upcoming model.

Is the iPhone 17 coming?

Although nothing has been revealed as of yet, there are a few things we can almost assume are 100% correct. Firstly the phone's release date. Every year (minus the year of COVID-19), the iPhone is released in September, usually at the end of the month after being revealed at the beginning. So we can almost guarantee this will be the case for the 17 model.

• 15 – September 22nd 2023
• 14 – September 16th 2022
• 13 – September 24th 2021
• 12 – October 23rd 2020 (pushed back due to covid)
• 11 – September 20th 2019

Will the iPhone 17 have major changes?

Like with most phones, there is always an improvement to the interior performance, battery, camera quality and more. So again we assume these features will all be adapted. It is believed we could see a new chipset for the iPhone 17, which would improve the phone's efficiency and processing speeds. Simple procedures like AP loading times and the general speed of the phone will be increased. And of course, the display of the phone will improve. It is rumoured Apple is moving onto a tougher material to make their screen and display out of, to make it even more scratch-proof and safer.

It has been rumoured that an iPhone 17 Air edition will release, in competition with Samsungs possible upcoming S25 Slim. There has never been an iPhone Air model made before, usually the 'Air' name is saved for the iPad models, so it will be interesting to check out this new tech. The iPhone 17 Air is rumoured to be a slim flagship smartphone that will replace the iPhone Plus series. It will certainly be interesting to see this phone when it is hopefully announced. 

Will the iPhone 17 have a different design?

However, one major factor about the iPhone 17 that many are questioning is what the phone will look like design-wise. There have been talks that the iPhone 17 will have the ‘biggest design change since the iPhone X’, and many are expecting this will come from the layout of the camera. People are assuming that Apple will move away from the vertical and diagonal pill shape and experiment with something a bit different. There has even been talks of Apple putting their camera in the top middle section of the phone, moving away from the iconic top right side. We hope this is the case, it would be great to see Apple and future phone companies experiment with the design of the camera instead of it being stuck in the same position every year. It seems other companies like Samsung are copying the current iPhone camera design. It would be good for Apple to move on and create a new series of smartphones that look completely different. 

It has also been claimed that the phone will be the thinnest it has ever been, being up to 25% slimmer. Described as a new ultra-thin model which will be the lightest phone Apple has ever created. It's also assumed Apple will bin off their Plus models as they did with the Miniseries. Purely because the Miniseries and the Plus models don’t do as well sales-wise.
