How To Estimate The Value Of Your Tech
Envirofone news | by Charlotte Bolton | Dec 03, 2024
When you sell your tech to Envirofone, we try to give you as much money as possible. When you sell through our website, you’re instantly given an approximate price for how much your device is worth, however, many factors are considered when checking it’s condition of a smartphone, and it may decrease in value (or even increase) if the condition is better or worse than was initially stated in value.
Sometimes, your device may look completely fine, but it could have a problem inside that you had no idea about that may decrease the value of your tech. Below we’ll explain all the possible reasons your device could decrease in value, so you can have a better understanding of why you may get less than you originally thought. Let’s take a look.

What is the depreciation of a smartphone?
- Excess wear and tear – Scratches, dents, scuffs or more around the side of the phone or on the corners.
- Cracked screens – Large cracks and even small scratches will devalue your phone.
- Doesn’t switch on – Issues with your phone's battery or general struggle to get the phone to cooperate.
- LCD damage – Dead pixels, discoloured areas, lines and spots across your phone screen.
- Broken buttons – Buttons with too much use can become ‘sticky’ and sometimes don’t always respond when they are used.
- Damaged microphone and speakers – Long amounts of time using speakers and mics on a phone can damage them, even without you realising it.
- Camera issues – Whether your camera is blurry, fogged up, or simply doesn’t look how it should, this will devalue your phone.
- Poor battery health – Go to settings on your phone and find the battery section, here you can see your phone's battery maximum capacity, if it’s less than 90%, your phone will decrease in value.
- Screen burn – This happens when static images on your phone are left onscreen for too long, ghost images of the images show up underneath your phone damaging the screen.
Also remember, the older your phone gets, the less money it’ll be worth! Even if your phone seems to be 100% working and completely fine, phone trends move along quickly. Your smartphone you bought last year will no longer be as expensive as it was, they decrease in price quickly, so don’t let that slip your mind.
