Features We’d Love To See In A Smartphone
Lifestyle | by Charlotte Bolton | Mar 17, 2025
With the development of both AI and the smartphone industry, smartphones have advanced significantly since they were introduced in the early 2000s. When Apple removed the home phone on their iPhone X in 2017, this was seen as a revolutionary step forward into modernised tech. Now, almost 10 years later, we can safely say technology has progressed significantly since.
From creating your own images from scratch using AI to incredible x100 zoom cameras, there’s so many new tech features that make smartphones incredible. But what other features would make the phone better? In this blog, we’ve listed 4 features that we’d love to see in a smartphone and hope will be integrated within the next decade!

What is Centre stage in Apple?
Centre Stage is a feature on the Apple iPads and MacBooks that keeps a person central and locked in the frame whilst they’re moving around on video call, this helps to create a more engaging and dynamic video experience, also making it easier for the other caller to focus on the person they’re talking to. As of yet, this feature isn’t available on the iPhone. (or any smartphone) But we think it’d be a great feature to include, especially with videography on smartphones being so popular and Facetime being a huge feature. Communication is the strongest aspect of a smartphone; it would be great to define this further adding a centre-stage option.
What phone is the Dynamic Island on?
Dynamic Island is an iPhone-only tool and is a secondary screen that displays automatically on the iPhone screen when a notification alerts. (For example when you get a battery notification, app update, phone call or text message.) Some phones technically have dynamic islands already on the back of their devices. For example, Pixel 9 Fold already has its double AND single screen whilst the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 4 has a small screen on the back of it. But we mean the non-folding standard phones and Apple iPhones.
It would be great to have a small dynamic island on all smartphones, a great way to reduce screen time as users won’t need to open their phones to receive a notification.
Why is the S Pen so good?
The S Pen is a small stylus for the Galaxy S Ultra models only. It works as a pen for the screen, a microphone, an AR command and much more. What’s better is that the Stylus slides into the Ultra model meaning it’s super easy to store, we’d love this feature to be integrated into all smartphones, not just Samsung, because it’s a great multi-functional tool that’s actually a great hygiene tool too… it stops people using their fingers on their dirty screens.
To logistically do this, we would suggest the universal stylus pens being magnetic, and the smartphones have a small dent in the side of them which the pen can automatically connect to and blend into the phone. It would be great for other companies to introduce this because Samsung seems to have mastered it with its Ultra models.
What Samsung phones support S Pen?
- Galaxy Z Fold 6
- Galaxy Z Fold 5
- Galaxy Z Fold 4
- Tab S7
- Tab S8
- Tab S9
- Tab S10
- S21 Ultra
- S22 Ultra
- S23 Ultra
- S24 Ultra
- S25 Ultra
- Book3
Is a 3D screen protector good?
And finally, we thought we’d mention an idea that’s been floating around online for some time now. 3D and holographic screens. There are plenty of screen shield protectors that dim your screen for others, it would be great to create a screen protector that works as a filter, to help make your screen 3D. We think this would be a great idea for watching movies and playing games, or if you’ve got a slightly bigger smartphone, it’s a great way to help draw and design graphics as you can get depth with the protector.

Conclusion:
Most of these features are already on other tech/smartphones, so we don’t think these are unreasonable. It would be great to see some of these available in the next 10 years, the previous 10 years we’ve had a great movement in the smartphone industry… who knows where the next 10 will lead!
